The New Scientist reports that the mysterious Higgs boson is likely heavier than was previously thought. This comes from a reanalysis of measurements of the top quark that find that particle to also be heavier than was previously thought. The new mass estimate of 117 to 251 GeV (the proton and neutron weigh about 1 GeV) may put the Higgs out of the reach of both current collider machines (LEP and FermiLab) and we’ll have to wait for the upcoming Large Hadron Collider to find out more about this mysterious creature.
